درس پانزدهم

بیایید با یک اشتباه بسیار رایج در استفاده از ضمایر تاکیدی شروع کنیم: فرم‌های -self.

اشتباه رایج این است که بگوییم: "Michael and myself are here."

اما درست آن این است: "Michael and I are here."

حالا یک نکته املایی و تلفظی مهم!

نگویید: "They fell down and hurt theirselves."

درست آن: "They fell down and hurt themselves."

برسیم به یک نکته ظریف درباره افعال و اسم‌های هم‌شکل.

اشتباه رایج: "Becky played a good play of chess."

درست آن: "Becky played a good game of chess."

حالا برویم سراغ ضمایر موصولی (Relative Pronouns). اینجا هم اشتباهات زیادی رخ می‌دهد.

اشتباه رایج: "I've a brother which is at school."

درست آن: "I've a brother who is at school."

برسیم به کلماتی مثل Everything و Something.

نگویید: "I heard everything which he said."

درست آن: "I heard everything that he said." (یا به سادگی: I heard everything he said.)

حالا برسیم به Who و Whom. در انگلیسی مدرن، استفاده از Whom بسیار کم شده است.

اشتباه رایج: "I saw the woman whom you said lived next door."

درست آن: "I saw the woman (who) you said lived next door."

برسیم به قیدهای عالی (Superlatives). کلمات دال بر "ترین".

اشتباه رایج: "It's the best which I've seen."

درست آن: "It's the best (that) I've seen."

حالا برسیم به عبارت The same.

نگویید: "Amelia bought the same bag that me."

درست آن: "Amelia bought the same bag as me."

برسیم به کلمات پرسشی. فرق Who و What با Which.

اشتباه رایج: "Who of the two boys is the taller?"

درست آن: "Which of the two boys is the taller?"

یک اشتباه بسیار رایج در سوالات پیچیده!

اشتباه رایج: "Whom do you think will be chosen?"

درست آن: "Who do you think will be chosen?"
