درس سوم

فعل Cure به معنی "درمان کردن" است.

اشتباه رایج این است که بگوییم: "The man was cured from his illness."

اما درست آن این است: "The man was cured of his illness."

فعل Depend به معنی "بستگی داشتن".

نگویید: "It depends from her."

درست آن: "It depends on (or upon) her."

مجری: برسیم به شماره ۲۳، فعل Deprive به معنی "محروم کردن".

اشتباه نکنید و نگویید: "Nelson Mandela was deprived from his freedom."

فعل Die به معنی "مردن". اینجا یک قانون مهم داریم.

نگویید: "Many people have died from malaria."

درست آن: "Many people have died of malaria."

کلمه Different به معنی "متفاوت".

این یکی از بحث‌برانگیزترین نکات است! نگویید: "My book is different than yours."

در انگلیسی استاندارد و کلاسیک، درست آن این است: "My book is different from yours."

کلمه Disappointed به معنی "ناامید" یا "سرخورده". این کلمه بسته به موقعیت، حروف اضافه مختلفی می‌گیرد:

اگر از یک چیز ناامید شدیم، از By, About یا At استفاده می‌کنیم. مثلاً: "Disappointed at the low

اگر از یک شخص ناامید شدیم، از With یا In استفاده می‌کنیم. مثلاً: "Disappointed with her son.

و اگر بخواهیم جمله‌ای با "that" بسازیم، می‌گوییم: "I was disappointed that I didn't get an invitation."

فعل Divide به معنی "تقسیم کردن".

نگویید: "I divided the cake in four parts."

درست آن: "I divided the cake into four parts."

عبارت No doubt به معنی "شکی نیست".

اشتباه رایج: "I've no doubt for his ability."

درست آن: "I've no doubt of (or about) his ability."

کلمه Dressed به معنی "لباس پوشیده".

نگویید: "The woman was dressed with black."

درست آن: "The woman was dressed in black."
